VitaDock was a community project started by xCorra which aimed to create and produce Switch-like docks for the PlayStation Vita. These docks, which connect to a TV via HDMI, allow one to connect their PSVita to a built-in USB port (and headphone jack/bluetooth for audio) and seamlessly play on a bigger screen thanks to Xerpi's udcd_uvc plugin.

After the crowdfunding project fell apart, the VitaDock Team decided to release the software for the Raspberry Pi powering the dock and the 3D design files in case anybody wanted to build one of their own.

VitaDock VLC is the final version of VitaDock software which makes use of VLC before moving on to create versions that use MPV instead.

Features

  • A custom build of VLC configured with optimal settings for streaming the Vita's screen.
  • Software for receiving the PS Vita's audio via Bluetooth.
    • This removes the need of having to connect your console via the 3.5mm audio jack.
    • Support for the internal Bluetooth chipset of the RPi 3B+, 3A+ and 4 but not for the 3B.
  • An on-screen keyboard for easier management when far away.
  • The ability to automatically start and stop the VLC stream when you plug your PSVita in or take it out.
  • Enable/Disable scripts for boot video, Vita notification and boot text.
  • Built-in SSH Client and FileZilla installed.
    • The username and password for SSH are available here.

FAQ

Q. Is there latency?

Yes very minimal to none, and I would not use it for a fps competition, but I was able to play Dragon's Lair with a PS4 controller. Watch Test Video.

Q. What Pi can I use to build the VitaDock?

Pi4b, Pi3b/b+/a+ have all been tested and work. This has been fully tested by Crash on the pi3b+ and the pi3a+ with a "Fat" PS Vita and Xerpi's 1.4 UCDC and his PS4 controller plugin from auto plugin vpk.

This image has also been tested by M0tie with a "Slim" Vita with a pi4b and a pi3b (with a dongle) and the same plugins.

Q. Can I use a Vita Dock with a capture card?

Yes you can, you can use it without a tv and directly liknked to the capture card. You can record or live stream to your preffered streaming platform. VitaDock Live Stream test with Mic.

Note: I would use a BT dongle if you are going to live stream, the sound quality is a bit better but not required.

Q. Where can I go for help if I need it?

You can go to r/VitaDock subreddit to get support for troubleshooting on your VitaDock.
