A program written by Art for backing up PSP UMDs to Memory Stick. This not only conserves the original disc, but playing the game from Memory Stick ISO file also saves battery power, and wear on the UMD drive.
The UMD ISO file is given the title's catalogue number read from the disc, or in the case of UMD Video, an abbreviated version of the movie title.
The ISO file is written straight to the ISO folder for immediate use with suitable unofficial hybrid PSP system firmware.
The latest version of UMDrip also auto detects UMD Videos, and rips them to the correct Memory Stick directory ready for immediate use.
Another late implementation is verification of the ISO file against the UMD media. Since it is assumed that the UMD media is the most unreliable, it is actually the disc that is read twice and compared against the Memory Stick write buffer in this case.
The UMDrip program does not circumvent any protection measures. It merely copies entire disc images to a file on a Memory Stick. The UMDrip program does not, in itself, provide the functionality to play the saved disc image files.
