Shin Bokura no Taiyou: Gyakushuu no Sabata is an role playing action rpg game for the Game Boy Advance.

This is a (technically unfinished) release of the translation patch. The entire game script is translated and the game may be played from start to finish without issue. A small number of in-game graphics remain untranslated, but this has no impact on the player’s ability to complete the game.

Included are the main patch and a few additional patches that weren't included in the main patch due to bugs. Apply them as well if you don't mind the drawbacks:

  • shinbok_e_0.7b.ips - The main patch. It includes the game script, map labels, menu titles, and a few other minor changes.
  • name_entry.ips - This patch converts the name entry screen to the English version but breaks the password entry screen.
  • menus.ips - This patch translates the main menu but messes up some of the other screens.
  • solar_sensor.ips - This hack allows you to adjust the solar gauge level by holding the R button and pressing Left or Right. Can be difficult not to trigger accidentally, especially during motorcycle segments.

The patches are in IPS format. You can use Lunar IPS or Floating IPS to apply the patch.

Translation notes

Note: Contain spoilers.

Gradius - The real sword is actually called a Gladius, but Konami loves to make references to their other games, so it remains unchanged.

Beatmania - This sound-producing solar gun frame is named after one of Konami's music game series.

Lifeless Town - There is a word puzzle in one of the rooms: "ICHIGO wo egake" (draw ICHIGO). At first glance, "ichigo" is the word for strawberry, but it can also be interpreted as "ichi go", the numbers 1 and 5. The solution to the puzzle is to trace the digits for 15 on the ground to avoid the pit traps. This would not translate well, so it was changed to a similar puzzle in English.

GariGari-kun - This bizarre fellow is the mascot for a real-life company, which sells the same popsicles you can buy in the game.
