This is a remake of the word-guessing party game Catch Phrase for the PSP.
User guide
How to use
- From the menu screen, press Start game.
- When all players are ready to start playing, press the Start button to start the timer.
- Press R+L at the same time to select a new word while the timer is running.
- The timer will run up to the amount of seconds set in the options screen.
- To stop the timer early, press Select.
Game objective
To win the game, your team must get the maximum number of points on the Catch Phrase chalkboard. In order to gain points, you and your teammates must not be caught holding the PSP when the timer goes off. Your team must be fast talkers, good guessers, and quick passers.
How to play
Pick a team to begin the game with the first word. The first word is displayed by press the Start button. This will also automatically start the game timer. The person with the first word begins to give clues and the team members start shouting out their guesses until the correct word has been yelled out.
The rules on giving clues are such that you are allowed to make any physical gesture and almost any verbal clue. It is however, against the Catch Phrase rules to say a word that rhymes, give the first letter or say part of the guessing word. If a team member breaks one of these rules and is caught, the timer is stopped (by pressing Select) and the other team is awarded a point on the Catch Phrase chalkboard.
Once the word has been guessed, the player holding the PSP passes the system to the next team as quickly as possible. The person receiving the PSP will confirm the word on the screen was guessed correctly. Once the word is confirmed, the player will press R+L to display a new word. This continues, alternating teams and new words, until the timer goes off. When the timer goes off, the team that is not holding PSP gains one point on the Catch Phrase chalkboard.
A bonus point can be earned for stealing a word. When the timer goes off, the team not holding the PSP will have a chance to guess the word on the PSP screen. The team can discuss amongst themselves and only one guess is allowed to gain the bonus point.
The next round is started by the team that was left holding the PSP when the timer went off. Game is over when a team reaches the maximum points to win.
Customizing phrases (Phrases.txt)
- The maximum number of characters a phrase can contain is 20 characters.
- The game can load up to 10000 phrases in total.
