A cross-platform tool for adding custom loops to the PSN game Beats' Jamming mode (Windows, Mac, Linux).
This will help you to organize VAG files into tracks and pages, and then build a working BJS file and minimal BAR for use in Beats.
User guide
How to use
Before you begin, you must have a collection of VAG files you want to use. These must all be the same length (4 bars) and same tempo.
The left-hand side of the window lists available VAG files.
- Select a directory of VAG files with the "Load Folder" button.
- If files don't appear, they might need to be patched. Use the "Patch VAG Files" menu under "Tools" to do so.
The right hand side roughly resembles Beats' Jamming interface.
- Drag a VAG file from the left side to one of the larger boxes on the right for use in that track. You can have up to 4 VAG files per track, and can name the track using the text box immediately below it.
- The tabs are for the pages that are switched using the "R" button in game. These can be named with the text boxes in the upper right corner.
The bottom contains the song's artist and song name; tempo; and "Create BJS" button.
- After all the VAG files are organized and everything is named to your liking, be sure to set the tempo to the same value as your VAG files and click "Create BJS".
- The program will then prompt for a file name and create the BJS accordingly.
A minimal BULK.BAR file will also be created in a new JAM_0002 directory.
- Move JAM_0002 to your unpacked Beats BAR directory (PSP_GAME/USRDIR/BARS/), overwrite the existing file, and repack.
Limitations
- The BAR file created must replace an already existing Jam BAR.
- User needs to convert audio files to VAGs themselves. (with tools like Awave Audio)
- User must know how to unpack, modify and repack the Beats ISO.
- If you've purchased Beats (please do), you can convert it to an ISO using NP Decryptor. From here you must extract the contents of the ISO, replace the proper folder, then repack the ISO and copy it over to your PSP. I use Prometeus for OS X to do the unpacking/repacking, but I'm sure there are other apps for other platforms.
- All loops must be 4 bars long.
- Beats allows for use of various sized loops, but right now it's locked in at 4. The duration of the main loop and time signature are also locked in at 4.
- XML is not generated yet.
- While the names created in the BJS will show up in Jamming mode, they will not show up in the menu; there will be a blank (but selectable) entry.
- No samples yet.
- No cover art yet.
- Please use at your own risk (the Linux build is completely untested).
