Pokémon Vega is probably the highest regarded of all foreign-language Pokemon hacks. Created by a group of Japanese hackers from 2ch, it contains a new region, all sorts of new Pokemon and moves, and a significant challenge.

This is a sequel to Pokemon Altair and Sirius Versions. The two are paired counterpart versions where the only difference is the wild Pokemon. There are parts of the story that won't make sense unless you've played Emerald and one of Altair or Sirius, so it's recommended to play them first.

It would also help to have played a game in the Pokémon Ranger series, but that isn't required.

Features

  • A fully new region, the Tohoak region.
  • 181 new Pokemon, plus 56 Pokemon from newer generations.
  • 70 new moves, plus 87 moves from newer generations.
  • Impressive custom music.
  • Rematches with almost all important trainers.
  • An extensive postgame, including a battle facility.
  • And much more.

Story

Three years ago, shortly after the crowning and subsequent retirement of Champion Brendan, Hoenn was battered by an enormous number of meteors. This disaster, known as the Hoenn Catastrophe, greatly transformed Hoenn's landscape, turning much of the southern end into a barren wasteland and destroying the Battle Frontier, among other things.

This also had a profound change on the wildlife, driving many species to extinction. More strangely, new species of Pokémon, known as Meteoric Pokémon, began appearing everywhere. At the forefront were three very powerful and evil Pokémon...

The story begins as you move into Littleroot Town, and are asked by Professor Birch to complete the Pokédex in order to document all the new species. You meet Birch's niece (or nephew), April (or Gordon), as well as Billy, the little brother of the current League Champion, Wally.

In addition, the Petalburg Gym Leader, Romero, has a little brother himself, who keeps crossing your path. His name is Mosmero, and he's quite the strange one. Despite being an adult, he travels the region performing all kinds of pranks.

FAQ

Q. How do I get through the first gym?

There's a hidden switch in one of the windows on the back that changes the destination of the flower warps.

Q. Where is the Flash HM?

Talk to the man on the western edge of Route 502.

Q. How do I get past the Dugtrio in Seafin City?

Beat the Seafin Gym, then give the Letter (found on the back of the Mewtwo statue deep in the Spirit Mansion) to the scientist on the second floor of the museum.

Then talk to the Pokemon Ranger on Route 505.

Q. Where is the Strength HM?

Talk to a hiker in the northwest part of Porcelia Forest.

Q. Where is the Cut HM?

Talk to the man hiding in the top floor of the Tower of Darkness.

Q. How do I get past the scientists in Ravenplume City?

Beat Team DH at the Chateau of Time, then finish the mission at Mt. Snowfall.

Talk to the Director at Orpimence City's Pokemon Broadcasting Station (be sure to talk to the scientists first).

Then give the Meteorite you received to one of the scientists back in Ravenplume City.

Q. Where is the Waterfall HM?

After clearing out the DH Hideout, talk to the grunt in the upper left of the first floor.

Q. I beat the Pokemon League. Now what?

This part of the game is more open-ended. You'll need to:

  • Rematch all the Gym Leaders (in new areas of old dungeons that are now open).
  • Defeat the three trainers in the new areas of Fire, Ice, and Lightning Islands.
  • Obtain a Pokemon at the end of an event in the Chateau of Time.
  • Obtain a Pokemon from the Champion in a new area of Victory Road.
  • Re-enter the Ranger Base at least once to see a short scene.

Then, you'll be able to enter a new place from a newly opened part of the DH Building.

Q. How do I get through the Sphere Ruins?

If you're using a guide written for the Japanese version, a certain puzzle won't work.

Try entering the Braille for "ON" (you'll know what this means when you get there.)

Q. I got through the Sphere Ruins. Now what?

Complete the entire National Pokedex, then talk to Professor Holly to get one last mission.

Misc

There is no trade compatibility with Altair and Sirius.

There are no issues with trading and battling with other copies of Vega, but the game was developed without considering the impact of trading in HM moves, so you may affect the intended story order this way.
