It was made with Dragon Basic Editor v1.3 for the Dragon Basic 32K Competition 2003.

User guide

How to play

The simulation is used to bet a certain amount of money on Red or Black. You’ll start with an initial amount of cash, which is hard coded in the program.

Place your bet on a color. After every spin your amount of cash is updated with the profit or loss. Your amount of cash and the number of spins will be saved.

The higher the investment, the higher the loss or profit. When you're broke SmartGamble will start all over with the initial amount of cash.

Betting strategies

The following strategies (or systems, as you like) are based on even money bets. In case of the French roulette this means betting on Red or Black, Pair or Impair (odd or even), or Passe or Manque (first or last 18 numbers).

With even money bets you win or lose the amount you bet.

Example: You bet 10 dollars on Red. If black is drawn, your 10 dollars are lost. If Red comes up you win 10 dollars.

The following strategies assume that you bet on the same color all the time, so don’t switch colors while in the middle of a cycle.

Martingale system

In the Martingale system, each bet is doubled after a loss. Keep doing this until you win, then go back to your starting bet. No matter how long the losses take, once you win there's always the profit of the starting bet (one unit).

Example:

  • Bet 1 unit on Black, Red comes up, loss 1 unit
  • Bet 2 units on Black, Red comes up, loss 1+2=3 units
  • Bet 4 units on Black, Red comes up, loss 1+2+4=7 units
  • Bet 8 units on Black, Black comes up, 8 won - 7 lost = 1 unit profit
  • Start over with a bet of 1 unit and repeat the cycle.

A reliable system, but high investment and very time consuming.

Labouchere system

The Labouchere system is also known as "cross-out".

Write down three numbers, lets say 1 1 1. The sum of the outer two numbers is your bet, in this case 1 + 1 = 2 (units). If you win you cross out the outer numbers and the numbers now on the outside are you new bet, in this case there's only 1 left, so this is your new bet.

If you lose however, you add the lost units at the end of the series, which now will become 1 1 1 2. Your new bet is 3, because 1 and 2 are on the outside now. Once you complete the series, i.e. you've crossed out all the numbers, your profit will be the sum of the three initial numbers, so 3 units here.

The idea of this system is that you cross out 2 numbers if you win, but add only 1 if you lose. In the long term you only have to win 1/3 of the spins to finish the series. So with a chance of 50-50 you should always win.

For example, you bet on red on the following series:

 Draws: B B B B B R B B R R B B R R R

Although black comes up 9 times against red for 6 times you still win the three units.

Positive Progression system

This system takes advantage of long streaks of the same color. Another advantage is that there’s no cycle with beginning or end in this system.

Start with a 2 unit bet. If it wins bet 3 units, if it loses bet 1 unit. Keep on going this way as long as you like: every time you win bet 3 units, every time you loose bet 1 unit.

High profit and low losses is the key here. Ride the waves.

To prove the reliability of this system calculate the profit on the following series of draws:

 Draws: B B R R B B B R R R B B B B R R R R

Notice that this series has the same number of occurrences of Black and Red. Also the number and length of the streaks are equal for both colors.

Use the system and calculate the profit while playing on black, then again do the same as if you were playing on red. You'll discover that either playing black or red gives you the same profit of 7 units.
