Game Categories Lite is a plugin that allows user to create custom folders to organize lists of contents on their PSP.

This plugin is based and uses source code from Game Categories Revised v12 (GCR) and Game Categories Light v1.3 (GCL), both created by Bubbletune.

This revision is made by codestation, with added options to sort categories and to be compatible with 6.20-6.60 CFW.

Installation Create a folder in ms0:/seplugins/ named categorieslite and add category_lite.prx to the /seplugins/categorieslite/ folder.

Open vsh.txt and add a new line to include the plugin. It is best to have this plugin as the first line if you have multiple.

For PSP 1000, 2000, 3000 please use the following line ms0:/seplugins/categorieslite/category_lite.prx 1

For PSP Go use this line instead ef0:/seplugins/categorieslite/category_lite.prx 1

Save the changes made to VSH.txt and reset the VSH from the Recovery menu.

User guide Category Mode:

  • Multi MS (Multiple folders listed instead of a Memory Stick on the XMB).
  • Contextual menu (Storage listed, select to view list of custom categories).
  • Folders (Storage listed, select to load list of custom folders).

Category Prefix:

  • None (No prefix required. Name folders how you like).
  • Use CAT prefix (Folders must have "CAT_" to be listed on the XMB).

Show Uncategorized:

  • No (Will not show content that is not in a custom folder in /GAME/ or /ISO).
  • Only Memory Stick (Will only show content on the Memory Stick that isn't in a folder).
  • Only Internal Storage (Will only show content on the internal memory that isn't in a folder).
  • Both (Will show all content in an uncategorized folder that is not in a folder).

Sort Categories:

  • No.
  • Yes (Allows sorting categories using numbers in the folder names. eg. CAT_01PSP, or 01Homebrew).

Create categories: With the plugin added, you can now create new folders in /PSP/GAME/ and /ISO/ to sort your content on your memory card. Folders can start with "CAT_" or just be named without a prefix.

Example of folders with the prefix:

/PSP/GAME/

  • CAT_PSX
  • CAT_Homebrew
  • CAT_Emulators
  • CAT_Utility

/ISO/

  • CAT_Action
  • CAT_Racing

You can only have a maximum of 8 category folders (including uncategorized folder if enabled). Category folders must not exceed 30 characters.

Hide folders: If you want to hide certain homebrew/game/dlc from the category listing, create a file named gclite_filter.txt and add the folders name, one per line (make sure that a newline is added at the end of the file). Next, put the file in your seplugins folder.

Translations: Each download file includes a folder named translations. Copy the language you want to use into the /seplugins/ folder and make sure the PSP is using that same language in System Settings.

For instance, /seplugins/category_lite_es.txt. Change system language to Spanish to see changes.

Compatibility Works on all models. Compatible with 6.20, 6.3x and 6.60 CFW.

Known issues Unknown if fixable: Change of category in the PSPGo requires a VSH reset.

Unrelated to gclite: ME doesn't merge the categories with the same name between /ISO/ and /PSP/GAME/.

Folder mode limitations/bugs:

  • Max categories: 8 (included uncategorized).
  • Folder name + homebrew folder name: 30 character, e.g.: My homebrews/AwesomeBigHomebrew is valid but My homebrews/AwesomeBigHomebrews isn't (not counting the "/").

Note: the japanese and other non-ascii characters are 2 bytes wide, e.g.: ???? counts as 8 characters.
