Planetarian - The Dream of a Little Star is a Japanese post-apocalyptic visual novel developed by Key in 2004.

This is a homebrew port of the game and was included in the Katawa Shoujo PC/Vita port as one of the expansions. The port was created with Ren'Py 7 allowing for arbitrary resolution scaling, HD text rendering, much faster skipping, stability and accessibility features.

Note: Requires the game files from the original game in order to play.

Installation

  • Download dlc-dp-creation-kit.zip and Katawa Shoujo.vpk.
  • Extract the zip file somewhere on your PC.
  • Obtain your copy of planetarian HD from Steam.
  • Open the game folder ("Browse local files" in Steam). Copy these folders to the folder you extracted earlier:
    • bgm
    • g00
    • koe
    • wav
  • On Windows, run build-vita.ps1 (right-click > Run with PowerShell) or build-vita.sh if you are using Linux.
  • Open the vpk file and move the base-script.rpa outside the /game/ directory.
  • Move the dlc-dp.rpa to the /game/ directory.

The addon includes two English versions: one is the current translation, and the other is the original Haeleth translation from 2005, which was also used in the PSP patch but has since become difficult to find.

User guide

In the future, mankind has almost wiped itself out due to a long-running global nuclear war brought on by the panic that arose from the depletion of all of Earth's natural resources, and the subsequent failure to colonize other planets.

With "The War" over and only a few thousand people left, a constantly falling rain, which is potentially deadly due to years and years of nuclear fallout, threatens to destroy the rest. The protagonist of the story is a scavenger who has broken into an abandoned city. He takes refuge from the rain inside a large department store building and finds something very unexpected on the top floor...
