Are you familiar with the card shuffle in playing cards? It's when you split the deck into two parts and shuffle them alternately between your hands (like casino dealers often do). This riffle shuffling technique has been turned into a puzzle game in this program.
User guide
When you press Start, you'll see eight characters and a cursor (denoted by A) displayed. The cursor can move left and right. Pressing the A button will shuffle and rearrange the characters based on the cursor's position. To help illustrate this, let's go through an example.
Imagine the screen looks like this (characters are arranged in alphabetical order for clarity):
>[ A B C D E F G H ] A
In this state, if you press the A button at the cursor's position, it performs a shuffle. First, it splits the letters into two groups at the cursor's position:
Left Group | Right Group >[ A B C D E F G H ] A
In a real card shuffle, you start rearranging the cards from the ones inside the deck. This can be represented by the following sequence of numbers:
>[ A B C D E F G H ] 8 6 4 2 1 3 5 7
Rearranging the cards according to this sequence completes one shuffle:
>[ E D F C G B H A ] A
The completed string in the game spells "GAMEBOY!". You'll quickly understand the mechanics when you try it yourself. However, clearing the game is challenging.
