Legacy TE: The Ultimate Build for Tournaments!
The Legacy Tournament Edition (Legacy TE) of Super Smash Bros. is designed with one goal in mind: to add more content while keeping the existing features intact. Most of the content from the Project M 3.6 remains unchanged, with only a few additions to enhance tournament gameplay. We have consulted with tournament organizers, competitive players, and netplay enthusiasts to create a build that the competitive community will love.
Compared to Project M 3.6, Legacy TE includes:
- The Zero Suit Samus costume has been replaced with an optimized version of SJS Zero Suit Samus
- The final Roy costume has been swapped with Awakening Roy + team colors
- Ivysaur's Seed Bomb now uses matching leaf colors per costume
- PSAs have been adjusted to fit new costumes (e.g. run trails for Sonic, sword trails for Roy, etc)
- Bowser's Castle base and Competitive Bowser's Castle have been swapped
- The Training Room now features a pillar for practicing on-hit timings and combos
- WarioWare, Inc. (L-alt) awards Turbo Mode after winning microgames
Miscellaneous additions:
- Visual improvements, including new menus, character portraits, and UI elements
- Improved music, stage, and costume file optimizations
- Random Element Mode replaces Brawl's Flower Mode
- Legacy TE theme added to menu music, with Project M themes still available in My Music

In addition to these changes, Legacy TE also offers:
- 10+ costumes for each character, with 2 additional hidden costumes
- Option to use team glow in team battles
- Every base stage now has 3 alt stages, with a few hidden R-alt stages
- New features in Legacy TE Code Menu, accessed by pressing L + R + d-pad down
- Fully functional match replays, playable frame-by-frame or sped up and copiable between SD cards
- Quick control customization within the character select screen by pressing Y on a tag
- Challenger Approaching disabled
- Stock changes during character transformations, such as Zelda/Sheik
- Over 70 newly added music tracks
Legacy TE Content Philosophy:
- All stages use a PM 3.6 camera and tourney-compliant PM 3.6 stages have at least five 1-for-1 alts
- START always provides a tournament stage, subject to regional and ruleset variations
- Z alts are semi-competitive, while L alts are wildcard and not usually tourney stages
- Stages should be low poly and have performance equal to PM 3.6 stages
- Costumes are mostly PM 3.6 recolors, with 2nd set of team colors where possible, and hidden costumes for casual play only
- Character cosmetics use consistent poses, and stock icons, portraits, and result screen reflect in-game costume
- Blue and teal colors used in menus for ease on eyes and beauty
For Tournament Organizers:
- Legacy TE gameplay is unchanged from Project M 3.6, with only the additions listed above.
- Hidden (Z) and (R) alt skins should not be used in tournament play as they are not properly reflected in cosmetics and can lead to all players having the same skin.
- Customizing Legacy TE with tourney-legal content is encouraged.
- The Legacy TE code menu should not be used during tournament matches.
Overall, Legacy TE offers a complete package for the competitive Super Smash Bros. community, with new costumes, stages, features, and optimizations for tournament play.
