Into the Blue bears resemblances to the popular game "Tetris" and the lesser-known variant "Tetris Attack". Both games share a vertical playfield with panels rising from the bottom. You can rearrange these panels, causing them to disappear when three or more matching panels align in horizontal or vertical rows. If a panel reaches the upper border of the playfield, the game ends.

While Into the Blue and Tetris Attack share similar gameplay, it is actually based on an older game called "Megapanel," which predates Tetris Attack by a few years and has slightly different game mechanics. Megapanel was a Sega Genesis title, but it remains relatively obscure as it was never released on other systems and stayed confined to Japan.

Into the Blue also has a competitive two-player mode, which can be accessed when two Game Boys are connected via the link cable.

Features

  • 9 Speed levels.
  • 3 Difficulty levels.
  • 3 In-game songs (plus 1 title song).
  • 1 Competitive mode for 2 players.

Controls

D-Pad - Move the tiles

Compatibility

The game was created for the classic Game Boy, but also run on the Game Boy Color, the Super Game Boy or any other compatible system. It has been tested on the “Everdrive GB” and the “GB USB 64M Smart Card”, but should also work with any other Game Boy compatible flash cartridge.

You can also play the game on an emulator such as BGB.
