Harmonium Wii is an innovative musical tool for creating melodies on a 16x16 grid within a pentatonic scale. It also allows users to bring their compositions to life by enabling Conway's Game of Life.
This unique concept is not easy to explain, but it is definitely worth trying to experience its full potential. It's worth mentioning that the concept behind Harmonium was not originally created by the developer, but was inspired by André Michelle's similar application, Tonematrix, available on his website lab.andre-michelle.com.
Description
On July 7th, 2009, I finally secured a job, which would mean limited time for working on homebrew projects. Despite my desire to release a full version 1, I decided to release a harmonium v1 beta3 as it is, with the understanding that it is still a work in progress.
Compared to the original release, the beta3 version has undergone significant improvements, including grid shifting, grid history, grid saving and loading, additional evolution modes, and UI changes. The playback system now utilizes only one ASND voice per column, resulting in a smoother and more even sound playback.
Unfortunately, some aspects were left unaddressed, such as fixing the tuning to 440Hz, adjusting software mixing for constant loudness, further tweaking the UI, and a few other minor items.
I hope that the beta3 release of harmonium will still provide enjoyment, even though the final version 1 may still be some time away.
