The Mandelbrot set is a mathematical set of points that is defined by the complex numbers that do not escape to infinity under a particular mathematical iteration. It is named after the mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot, who studied and popularized it in the 1970s.

The set is often represented graphically, and the resulting images often feature fractal-like patterns that are both visually striking and mathematically interesting. It is also used in many fields like physics, engineering, and finance to create fractals images and models.
