Metroid: Other M Redux is an improvement hack of the Maxximum Edition, a reimagining of the classic Wii game, Metroid: Other M.

The cutscenes underwent significant revisions to a more "presentable" state, the full playlist of the final edited videos can be viewed on the author's YouTube Channel. Other M Redux also restored all the original OST from the Other M.

For a comprehensive breakdown of the modifications made to the files, as well as information on the progress of the project, visit the Metroid: Other M Redux thread on GBATemp.

Installation

Riivolution method

What you need:

  • Wii, Wii U, or Dolphin emulator with Riivolution support.
  • A copy of Metroid: Other M.

Instructions:

  • Extract the "Other M Redux" folder into "Documents/Dolphin Emulator/Load".
  • Copy the "[Riivolution] Other M Redux.xml" file into "Documents/Dolphin Emulator/Riivolution".
  • For the edited cutscenes, extract "movie.zip" and move all the .sfd files into "Documents/Dolphin Emulator/Load/Other M Redux/movie".
  • Load the XML in Dolphin by right-clicking on Other M, select "Start with Riivolution patches", then click "Open Riivolution XML" and select the XML file.
  • Toggle options from "Disabled" to "Other M Redux".
  • Maxximum OST is optional, only enable if desired. If you want the original Other M soundtrack, don't enable it when running the Riivolution patch (or delete the /ost/ directory inside /sound/).

Optional .json file:

  • You can also create a custom .json file exclusively for loading up Redux, without having to manually boot up the Riivolution file each time on boot. The author has included one just as reference (it was created for a Steam Deck), but it should not be used as-is, since it depends on specific folder paths. You should modify 3 paths from the .json accordingly:
    • "base-file" - Path to where you have your Other M ISO/WBFS file in your system.
    • "root" - Path to the "Riivolution" folder in your system, where the "Other M Redux" folder is.
    • "xml" - Path to the custom Riivolution XML file for Other M Redux, the one included in this package.

Create a new ISO

What you need:

Instructions:

  • Dump the ISO from the Wii or Wii U console.
  • Copy the ISO to PC and open in Wii Backup Fusion. You will be able to browse to that directory for the file replacement.
  • Now you can start replacing the files in the ISO with those from "Other M Redux" folder:
    • Rename "Other M Redux/redux.dol" to "main.dol" and copy it into DATA/sys/main.dol, replacing the original main.dol.
    • Move and replace all the numbered files inside Other M Redux/model/ into DATA/files/. Note that you should move only the files, and not the "model" folder.
    • Move and replace the folder Other M Redux/movie/ (extracted from the "movie.zip" file) into DATA/files/movie/.
    • Move and replace the folder Other M Redux/sound/ into DATA/files/sound/.
    • (Optional) If you want to have the modified OST that Maxximum Edition had, move and replace all of the files inside Other M Redux/sound/ost/ into DATA/files/sound/bgm. If you want to keep the original Other M OST, then don't bother with this step.
  • Select the option Transfer to image in Wii Backup Fusion, choose ISO or WBFS.
  • Play on Dolphin or console.
