The custom firmware, SXOS, which comes with Team Xecuter's SX mod chips for the Nintendo Switch, is said to reuse many tools and code from other solutions like Atmosphere - an open source and free custom firmware for the Switch. However, some users prefer SXOS for its unique features, such as the ability to mount XCI games without installation.

Unfortunately, Team Xecuter's key members were arrested in late 2022, and there have been no updates on their software or website since. Consequently, SXOS can be considered inactive.

Nevertheless, for whatever reason, you may want to try the infamous CFW now that it has been hacked. Please note that you will still require a hacked Switch to run the software, either an earlier model or a recent console with an SX mod chip (in which case, you may already have a valid license to use their custom firmware).

How To Hack SX OS

Currently, SXOS only supports Switch firmware up to version 11.0.0. Any newer firmware will result in a failed attempt. However, you can downgrade using AtmosphereNX and create an emunand running the 11.0.0 firmware for use with SXOS.

Here are the steps you need to follow:

  1. Copy an untouched clean SXOS 3.10 boot.dat to the root directory of your SD card and use the SXOS payload to launch it.
  2. Launch SXOS. If you don't have license-request.dat, it will be created in the root of your micro SD card.
  3. Copy license-request.dat from your Switch to the extracted folder you downloaded from this post.
  4. Copy a clean SXOS 3.10 boot.dat to the folder and rename it to boot.dat.orig (to prevent modification).
  5. Click SXOS-GFX.exe. This will create a new folder called "out" that will contain some bin files created from the themes folder. You can remove this by clicking on SXOS-GFX.exe again.
  6. If you have Python 3.9 installed, run SX_License_Hack.py, and boot.dat and license.dat should be created.
  7. Copy the newly created boot.dat and license.dat to the root of your micro SD card.
  8. Use the SXOS payload to launch.
  9. Note that the SXOS extra hekate icon can be modded at line 310 (BL.write(b'argon/payloads/hekate.bin')) to launch any payload you want. Just change the path to the payload you wish to launch, and line 314 contains the name for that icon - again, change this to your desired name.

Also, the autoboot code was commented out. If you want to show the SXOS options during boot, you can re-enable this in the script. Alternatively, you can press the volume + button to bring up the options menu.
