If you play with the version. Ds.gba (on linker), your progress will be saved on the cartridge, simply select "Continue" on the title screen (no kidding).
* .ds.gba - Your progress and total played time will be saved on SRAM, you can continue your game and switch between the levels you've completed using L/R.
* .sc.nds - For Supercard or GBA Movie Player, your progress won't be saved, but you can switch between all levels using L/R triggers (simply download the AztecChallengeSC_GbaMP one).

If you play on Supercard (version. Sc.nds), your progress is not saved (maybe later, there I have not found how to), but you can move from one level to another with the shoulder buttons, it compensates.
The game is also fully playable with Dualis and DSEmuMe (but without sound).

Note that the game runs under DSEmu nickel, but without sound.
