There are five stages. Each run gets longer leaving more time for the ball to reach maximum velocity.
Watch out for obstacles: walls act like paddles, changing the ball's direction on contact, and flip pads reverse paddle controls until hit again or the ball is lost.

Player has three extra balls to try and finish each run.

Glitch:
* Enabled - Theme for the jam was "Glitched," so a glitch is included. Pressing Circle triggers pre-run randomization, changing the ball's position, current direction, obstacle locations, end goal, and resetting velocity.
* Disabled - Circle does nothing during gameplay.

Glitch Hint: There is a reason the original controls aren't mapped to the Cross and Triangle buttons.
Difficulty:
* 1, 2, 3 - Higher numbers mean longer runs before the goal node appears, faster maximum ball velocity, and quicker ball reach to the maximum.

Controls:
* Regular - Hold L or R and use Up and Down to move the respective paddle. When controls are flipped, L controls the right paddle, and R controls the left.
* Alternate - Use Up and Down along with Cross and Triangle to move the respective side. When controls are flipped, the D-Pad controls the right paddle, and face buttons control the left.

Physics:
* Regular - Original, simpler physics implementation from the Jam. Collision position on a paddle or wall does not affect the ball's trajectory.
* Alternate - Physics align more with other paddle games, where the collision position with the paddle changes the bouncing angle.

Mode:
* Story - Single-player pong gameplay with story elements. Broken down into three missions, each requiring the completion of five runs with the allotted attempts. Runs get progressively harder in each mission with introduced obstacles. Within a mission, runs get progressively longer.
* Endless - Highscore mode. Obstacles loop through, and ball velocity increases as the run progresses.

ShadowPong is a single player version of Pong with a cyberpunk aesthetic.

Created for RE:Start! The 2022 PSP Game Jam.

User guide

Play this game like Pong. Use the paddles to keep the ball in play until it reaches the exit node. You have three extra balls to complete each run.

Watch out for obstacles: walls act like paddles, changing the ball's direction on contact, and flip pads reverse paddle controls until hit again or the ball is lost.

Game Settings

Glitch:

  • Enabled - Theme for the jam was "Glitched," so a glitch is included. Pressing Circle triggers pre-run randomization, changing the ball's position, current direction, obstacle locations, end goal, and resetting velocity.
  • Disabled - Circle does nothing during gameplay.

Difficulty:

  • 1, 2, 3 - Higher numbers mean longer runs before the goal node appears, faster maximum ball velocity, and quicker ball reach to the maximum.

Controls:

  • Regular - Hold L or R and use Up and Down to move the respective paddle. When controls are flipped, L controls the right paddle, and R controls the left.
  • Alternate - Use Up and Down along with Cross and Triangle to move the respective side. When controls are flipped, the D-Pad controls the right paddle, and face buttons control the left.

Physics:

  • Regular - Original, simpler physics implementation from the Jam. Collision position on a paddle or wall does not affect the ball's trajectory.
  • Alternate - Physics align more with other paddle games, where the collision position with the paddle changes the bouncing angle.

Mode:

  • Story - Single-player pong gameplay with story elements. Broken down into three missions, each requiring the completion of five runs with the allotted attempts. Runs get progressively harder in each mission with introduced obstacles. Within a mission, runs get progressively longer.
  • Endless - Highscore mode. Obstacles loop through, and ball velocity increases as the run progresses.

Controls

Regular:

L+Up/Down and R+Up/Down - Move the respective paddle

Alternate:

Up/Down and Cross/Triangle - Move the respective paddle
