Resonate is a fast paced undersea rail shooter released by Hardhat.

This was one of the contest entries for the PSP-Hacks Homebrew Idol in 2008.

Features

  • 5 hero forms: Zooplankton, Sea Urchin, Seahorse, Stingray, Thresher Shark.
  • High score tracking for each game.
  • Enemies in various attack formations.
  • 3 types of power ups.
  • Level editor for Windows, Linux or MacOS based on fltk and OpenGL.

Installation

On Custom Firmwares 3.xx (such as m33 or OE firmwares), copy the resonate folder into ms0:/PSP/GAME/. The src folder is only needed to modify the game.

User guide

Your goal is to evolve into a thresher shark and become king of the ocean. Hit the blue striped targets to collect evolution up.

Accumulate 8 evolution ups to level up to the next evolutionary form. If you're hit too many times, the adventure ends and you need to try again.

Evolutionary forms:

  • On normal difficulty, you start as a Sea Urchin (Level 2).
  • Collect eight and move up a level to Sea Horse (Level 3).
  • Miss a target that collides with you and move down to Zooplankton (Level 1).

Combos:

  • If more than one enemy is targeted at once, then there is a scoring bonus of 25% for each enemy targeted.
  • A maximum of 8 enemies can be targeted at a time.

Heads Up Display:

  • At the top right, is the score for the level.
  • On the bottom right is the chaos ammo count, and the chaos timer.
  • On the bottom left is the evolution meter.

Controls

Analog - Move the targeting reticle

Cross - Lock targets (hold), Fire at targets (release)

Square - Releases chaos to destroy all nearby enemies and capture powerups
