Waffle is a game engine that allows games using the Visual Art's AVG32 engine to run on PocketPC devices. It supports a range of visual novels (most of which are 18+), it is also possible to port games from entirely different systems through a dedicated converter.

This is modified build of Waffle port for PSP (わっふる for PSP), changes include:

  • No option to select .AVD files at startup.
  • Filename is fixed to WLK2XX.AVD (WLK2XXCD).
  • Different key bindings.
  • Runs in user mode.
  • Support for extended memory on PSP-2000 CFW3.71M33-3 and later.
  • Volume adjustments are possible.

The following features has been added:

  • Exit using the HOME button.
  • Bitmap font support.
  • BGM playback via Media Engine (MP3, ATRAC3, ATRAC3plus).
  • Voice playback when not using KOE.PAC with AIR and KANON:
    • Folder[3-digit]/File[Z+7-digit].WAV (or MP3)
    • Folder[3-digit]/File[Z+8-digit].WAV (or MP3)
    • Folder[4-digit]/File[Z+8-digit].WAV (or MP3)
    • If using KOE.PAC, set #KOE_DOUBLE_PAC=001 in GAMEEXE.INI. If playing files directly, set #KOE_DOUBLE_PAC=000.

Notes:

  • The HOME button functions normally but does not resume.
  • Bitmap fonts work great on low-resolution QVGA screens. The IPA font (2.75MB, including BF) is recommended.
  • BGM playback now works with audio formats such as .mp3, .aa3, .oma, and .omg.
  • When using the vAVG32 mixer for conversion, voice playback is supported even without KOE.PAC (the mixer version allows for simultaneous playback of voice and SE). Although the v_renamer tool is not directly compatible with Waffle, the modified build can now recognize files in various formats without requiring folder or file renaming. This adjustment was required because both older versions of Waffle experienced freezes during Akiko’s voice playback in KANON with KOE.PAC. As a result, the feature was added to handle files directly.

Installation

Binary and converters:

A very brief guide:

  • Run avgconv.exe, select the AVC file for the game you want to convert. Then specify the game folder to begin conversion process.
  • A folder named after the converted game will be created where avgconv.exe is located, in the folder you will find a file named WLK***.AVD (data are compressed to QVGA 320x240).
  • If the game contains audio, extract and convert the audio files to MP3. (WAV is also supported)
  • For text display, download and rename bitmap font to default.ttf.

Folder structure:

ms0:/PSP/GAME/AVG32
 |-BOOT.PBP
 |-DEFAULT.TTF
 |-WLK2XX.AVD
 |-WLK2XXCD\
 | |-track_xx.mp3
 | |-SE_xx.mp3

Note: Make sure the AVD file and folder are named WLK2XX.AVD and WLK2XXCD.
