User guide

Gameplay

In this game, you'll encounter 20 famous characters, and your task is to match each one with the appropriate cause of death from a selection of 4 options.

For every correct answer, you earn a Bonus represented by a green vial. These vials can be used to eliminate incorrect answers, with a limit of 2 vials per question.

The correct answer for each question is revealed at the end. Once you've completed all 20 questions, you'll receive a summary of your answers.

Question system

The Question system has been programmed in the form of a draw, which means that you can play 5 consecutive games without seeing the same character twice.

As for the answers, there are 10 choices (Natural death, Hung, Drowned, Imprisoned, Murdered, Poisoned, Guillotined, in combat, on the stake, in a duel), 3 wrong answers are randomly placed on the screen, which means that for the same historical character, the screen configuration is very likely to be different.

Story mode

The goal of the Story mode is to enhance the educational aspect of the game (idea by Mr. Andrews).

You can navigate from one character to another by pressing the Y or A keys, or by using the Stylus to discover a brief introduction about them.

Controls

Select - Music (yes/no)

R - Stop scrolling

D-Pad - Change the direction and speed of movement

In game:

Stylus or ABXY - Answer question

L - Use a bonus to eliminate a wrong answer

Start - Quit

Changelog

2007/08/24

  • This is the final version of the NECRO-QUIZZ DS game with now 2 languages (French and English), the English translations were done by Erdnal, who had a tough job with the story mode and the 100 characters.
  • Other changes:
    • Automatic language detection at game startup.
    • Ability to switch between French and English on the main menu.
    • 2 background music tracks.
    • Title screen with modified dragon.
    • New scrolling background and bug fix in scrolling on the X axis.
    • Simplified border on the bottom screen to better highlight the buttons.
    • Changed the colors of the borders to better differentiate them from the scrolling background.
    • Modification of the parchment to improve text visibility and increase contrast between the border and the background.
    • Changed the cartridge for the question on the top screen.
    • New frame for displaying character photos with rounded corners and more relief and detail.
    • The colors for the dragon on the top screen are brighter.
    • Errors corrected in the character information.
    • Modification of the text display routine to 16c.
    • Correction of a shift in the notes, and probably other small details that I forgot to note, in any case, the ROM went from 1176 Ko to 1437 Ko.

2007/06/17

  • Press the START button at startup to skip the 2 intro screens.
  • The game's title screen has been modified.
  • Creation of a new transition effect to display the contest logo and the game title.
  • Added an animated owl (just for fun).
  • Correction of the display for 3 characters.
  • Added a button at the bottom left to indicate that you need to press a key in CREDITS, HELP, and the QUIZ after answering.
  • Changed the quit button, the old one was too pale and blended with the background.
  • Improved the display of the score and the number of questions on the top screen (it looked rushed as someone kindly wrote in an email to me) and then in green and blue, I didn't like it at all anymore.
  • +1 animation when answering correctly on the top screen.
  • Chronological ranking of characters in the HISTORY module.
  • Added a little something when answering all 20 questions perfectly (you have to finish the game to see what it looks like).
