This is a homebrew version of Egyptian Ratscrew, a modern card game that matches your pattern recognition skills with your reaction time as well as your wits.

User guide

Objective - To get all the cards.

Gameplay

Players are dealt equal packs of cards (or as close as possible) from the deck. Players are not to look at their cards at any time before they are played.

A player begins by placing their top card face-up to start a central pile. Play proceeds in a pre-defined order and each player lays down their top card on the pile until a face card or ace is played.

The next player then has a certain number of chances to play another face card or ace (4 chances after an ace, 3 after a king, 2 after a queen and 1 after a jack). If the player is able to do so, play proceeds and the next player must attempt to play another face card or ace in the newly prescribed number of chances.

If the player is unable to do so, the most recent player to play a face card or ace claims the pile. Also, if a player is unable to finish playing because he/she ran out of cards, the next player is responsible for the difference (i.e. Player 1 plays a King, Player 2 only has 1 card left, Player 3 continues to play the final 2 cards).

For certain sequences of cards (see next section), the pile may be claimed by slapping it. In these cases, any player, including those holding no cards may slap the pile to attempt to claim it. The first to slap the pile claims the cards. If the successful claimer had no cards previous to the slap, this is called 'slapping in'.

The game ends when a single player holds the entire deck.

Note: If a single player has been eliminated before the end of gameplay (has no cards), that player has the option to slap the pile at any appropriate time and the cards are righfully theirs. Basically, as long as someone hasn't completely won, you have not yet lost.

Ways to slap the pile

Depending on how you like to play the game, the following slapping variations may be turned on/off in the options menu.

By default, the pair and sandwich variations are turned on.

Sandwiches:

  • Pair - Two cards of the same rank played in succession (e.g. 9-9).
  • Sandwich - A pair separated by a single card of a different rank (e.g. 5-7-5).
  • Lettuce and Tomato - A pair separated by two cards (e.g. A-2-7-A).
  • BLT - A pair seperated by three cards (e.g. 5-J-K-10-5).
  • 69 sandwich - '69' rule with a card in the middle (e.g. 6-K-9 or 9-2-6).

2-Card Combos:

  • Marriage - A King and Queen, or Queen and King played in succession (e.g. K-Q or Q-K).
  • Divorce - A Queen cheating with a jack (e.g. Q-J or J-Q).
  • '69' rule - What it says (e.g. 6-9 or 9-6).
  • Sum Ten - Two cards in a row that add up to ten (face cards not included) (e.g. 6-4).

Other:

  • Run - A series of the cards in accending or descending order (e.g. 3-4-5 or Q-J-10).
  • Flush - 3 consecutive cards of the same suit (e.g. 3<>,8<>,Q<>).

Controls

Square - Play a card on your turn

Cross - Slap the pile
