This is a demo game made by Simon Thomley that recreates a portion of Sonic 1 on the Game Boy Advance by reverse-engineering the original game. The proof-of-concept ROM was created as a direct counter to Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis, SEGA's official port of Sonic 1 to the Game Boy Advance.
The demo includes the entirety of Green Hill, the special stage, and a partially complete Labyrinth Zone. And it also brings playable Knuckles and Tails.
This project was later used as the foundation for two other proof-of-concept games: Sonic DS and Sonic CD DS.
Features
- One-zone demo runs that smoothly at 60fps.
- Sonic's spindash ability is fully functional.
- Tails and Knuckles can be accessed by holding A or B and pressing Start at the title screen.
- An incomplete Labyrinth Zone can be accessed by holding L at the title screen.
- Debug Mode can be toggled by pressing R in-game, enabling object cycle and object placement using A and B.
Controls
Left/Right - Move
A/B - Jump
Down+A/B - Spin dash
