Zombie Escape is developed based on the idea behind the Linux game Robots. There are a couple gameplay tweaks with major improvements to the title and menu graphics, largely the work of branin.

It was entered into the NEO Summer Coding Compo 2006 (PSP Games).

Installation

Place the entire Zombie Escape folder into the Applications folder in Luaplayer.

User guide

You are being attacked by zombies! There are a few things you should know about zombies that will aid in your survival.

First, even though they prefer human brains, they eat everything... including each other. Zombies don't have regular blood though, they have deadly acid filling what is left of their blood vessels. So, when they eat each other, the result is a bubbling pool of acid.

Second, they come after you as straight as possible, no matter what is in their way. They don't hesitate to walk into fire or pools of acid, even though it turns them into pools of acid when they do it. Hey, zombies don't think, you know, unless by 'think' you mean 'try as hard as they can to eat human brains.'

Lastly, you do have one extra means of escape that the zombies can't use: teleportation.

It takes quite a bit of energy to teleport to a safe location, however, so you can only do so five times before you have to recharge. You can, however, teleport completely at random as many times as you want.

Compatibility

This game has been successfully tested with LuaPlayer v0.20.

Known issues

One possible issue is when it takes over 5000 iterations to find a safe teleport location. Also background music doesn't play at full speed in game.

Changelog

v1.1

  • Updated for the neoflash summer competition.
  • Graphics much improved by branin.
  • The circle button is now disabled after using up all of the safe teleports (In v1.0 you could still teleport using the "safe" teleport button, but it was a random teleport, not a safe one).
  • Switched to LuaPlayer 0.20 mod by Cools to take advantage of increased CPU speed and System.Quit().
  • Made into a standalone game, not requiring LuaPlayer on the user's PSP.
  • Moved the numbers on the information panel so that they would be centered.

v1.0

  • Original release.

Credits

  • Sound effects were downloaded from www.a1freesoundeffects.com.
  • Background music is based on the Third Movement of Symphony No. 1 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
  • Everything else was done by LMelior.
  • PSP-programming.com for putting on the contest for which this game was made.
  • Evilmana.com for teaching how to code in Lua for the PSP.
  • Luaplayer.org for porting Lua to the PSP, which made all of this possible.
