The cIOS (custom IOS) is a software that is used by some applications that work with unofficial content. An IOS is what the console uses to communicate between the hardware and software. By applying custom patches to the official IOSs, it becomes possible to run more advanced homebrew software, such as backup loaders.
The Hermes cIOS are modified IOS that provide additional functions like USB support, Trucha bug, and ES_Identify, which are not present in the official IOS. They are often used in music games with extra controllers. Note that the currently d2x cIOS already has a very high compatibility and this is probably not needed.
User guide
To install the Hermes cIOS offline, use the NUS Downloader to download the following IOS (be sure that Pack wad is not selected):
- IOS > IOS 37 > v3869.
- IOS > IOS 38 > v3867.
- IOS > IOS 57 > v5661.
- IOS > IOS 60 > v6174.
Create a folder named ios on your SD card and copy the contents of the new folders into it.
Then, start the Hermes cIOS installer from the homebrew channel and select the desired cIOS with A and the respective Base IOS with D-Pad Down.
- Custom IOS 202 v65535 (Homebrew) - Base IOS 60.
- Custom IOS 222 v65535 (Default) - Base IOS 38.
- Custom IOS 223 v65535 - Base IOS 37.
- Custom IOS 224 v65535 - Base IOS 57.
Confirm the installation with 1 and choose the appropriate settings (the installer must be restarted for each cIOS).
Note: Make sure to unplug all GameCube-related items or the installer may crash.
