Abuse-SDL for PSP is a port of the side-scrolling action game Abuse from CRACK DOT COM that was released into the public domain.

This PSP port is based on the SDL port for Abuse and only the PSP executable is provided. The data files for the shareware and the full version are available on the official site of Abuse-SDL.

Installation

Create a folder abuse and copy the file EBOOT.PBP into the folder.

Get abuse-0.8.tar.gz and extract the contents of the data folder into the abuse game folder.

Copy the abuse game folder to the /PSP/GAME/ directory on the Memory Stick.

To enable music playback, download Timidity GUS patches.

Unpack them either into the root of the Memory Stick (ms0:/timidity/ or ef0:/timidity/), or into a timidity subdirectory of the abuse game directory (/PSP/GAME/abuse/timidity/).

User guide

Story

The protagonist of the game, Nick Vrenna, has been unjustly incarcerated in a prison where the staff are performing unethical medical experiments upon the inmates.

A prison riot occurs and an experiment goes horribly wrong.

The people inside the prison - except for Nick, who seems to be immune - are infected with a substance called Abuse that transforms them into monsters.

With the water supply in danger of being infected, Nick arms himself and fights through the horde to prevent this, and then escapes from the prison complex.

Gameplay

Abuse resembles a side-scrolling platform action game.

The gameplay consists of fighting various enemies/creatures and solving simple puzzles, usually involving switches.

Configuration

After you first run Abuse on the PSP, there will be a file abuserc in the Abuse directory.

It contains options to alter the screen resolution and the analog stick behaviour.

The file is commented and should be self-explanatory.

L - Activate special power (right mouse button)

R - Fire (left mouse button)
