NOTE: This project is now discontinued. Head over to its replacement if you want Corbenik CFW Updater - RE 3DS!

corbenik-updater

Updater based on LPP-3DS for the Corbenik Custom Firmware Based on EasyRPG 3DS Updater : RE by me. http://gs2012.xyz

Notes:

The author of the CFW is NOT responsible for Corbenik CFW Updater: RE or this method of installation.

Corbenik CFW Updater: RE is not endorsed or supported by chaoskagami.

Also, it's not really hard to set up the CFW with a PC. This method has the sole advantage of not needing a PC.

Corbenik vs. Skeith:

Soo, what's the difference? Well. Corbenik CFW is the stable version aka release version.

Skeith is the exact same thing as Corbenik CFW - however, they're the nightly versions. While Skeith is generally stable enough for daily use, inexperienced users shouldn't mess with it (or, to be honest, with a CFW like this at all, really).

Pick either. Corbenik is installed to "sdmc:/corbenik" and Skeith to "sdmc:/skeith".

Usage

  1. Download the CIA/3DSX Release from http://gs2012.xyz/3ds/corbenik-updater
  2. Install it using the appropriate method.
  3. If you want Corbenik Updater to update to the non-chainloading version of Corbenik, create a file named "nochain" under the directory "/corbenik-updater". 2.1) If you want Corbenik to be updated to the latest nightly build (by me), create a file named /corbenik-updater/usenightly . 2.2) If you want to hear a cool BGM while updating, place a file named /corbenik-updater/bgm.wav or download the BGM Edition of the updater, then create a file named /corbenik-updater/usebgm . 2.3) If you have Skeith, and want to update Skeith instead of Corbenik, make a file named /corbenik-updater/useskeith .
  4. If your Corbenik payload is not named "/arm9loaderhax.bin" or "/arm9loaderhax_si.bin", create a file named "/corbenik-updater.cfg" and write the path there. (ex. "/somefolder/thisiscorbenik.bin")
  5. If you want the updater to automatically update to the latest available version, create a file named "useupdate" under "/corbenik-updater".
  6. Run the updater. Select an option. A clean update deletes the configuration files. A dirty update keeps the configuration.
  7. Congrats, you've updated Corbenik!

Requirements:

  • A 3DS with Arm9LoaderHax and a CIA manager like FBI
  • Corbenik 3DS

Tutorial:

  • Download and install Corbenik CFW Updater: RE (you can do so from the official page or TitleDB/FBI/Homebr3w).
  • Open Corbenik CFW Updater: RE.
  • Select the option to install the CFW you want (either Corbenik or Skeith).
  • Corbenik/Skeith will be downloaded, along with the required files.
  • You'll be prompted to reboot once it finishes. Press A.
  • You'll boot into the Corbenik/Skeith menu. Pick the patches you want (FIRM protection, signature patches, autoboot, etc.)
  • Go back to the Corbenik menu and hit "Boot firmware". It should boot you into the Home Menu.

But really, if you need a tutorial, you shouldn't be messing with a CFW where FIRM protection isn't on by default.

NOTES: If you encounter issues, it's because either Corbenik/Skeith or the Updater are broken. If this does not work, follow the instructions in Corbenik's repo.
