I am creating this thread to discuss the possibility of getting DVDs to play on the Disc Channel of the Wii, as well as for educational purposes. The link to the project can be found here.

The Wii was originally able to read DVDs through the Disc Channel, but it required a few modifications.

(1) A patched .brlyt file to display and center the DVD .tpl. I have already implemented this in my theme and it is ready for download.

(2) A patched boot cycle to accept DVDs. This could be done through Priiloader, unless Nintendo made it easy.

(3) A banner file called DVDbann.ash, similar to the banner for GameCube games. I am currently searching for this file in older versions of the Wii System Menu or in CinePlayer.

(4) The DVD Channel software, officially known as 'Sonic CinePlayer CE DVD Navigator'. I am still trying to find this software, but in the meantime, WiiMC may work as a temporary solution.

We can move forward by using the WiiMC forwarder, making it hidden, and renaming it to an unknown Title ID. If Nintendo made this process easier, they could have programmed the Wii to search for a hidden channel with a certain Title ID. If this channel is present, then DVDs would work. Maybe this "hidden ID" is somewhere in the boot cycle and Priiloader would not be needed. If anyone knows this hidden ID, please share.
