Troops & Flags is a turn-based strategy game that was created by a team of 5 people for the Intro to Game Design and Development course.

It used devkitPro and PALib for development.

User guide

Gameplay

The objective is to be the first to capture all three of your opponent's flags to win the game.

Every turn you will have a rainbow number of Action Points between 1 and 6. Use them strategically to make your move, different actions will require a varies amounts of Action points:

  • 1 - Move through an emopty location on the map.
  • 0 - Move through a location occupied by your own barricade.
  • 2 - Destory an enemy barricade (+2 points for each additional one).
  • 3 - Capture an eneny flag (+number of defenses if set up prior).
  • 5 - Send an enemy troop back to his starting line on the map.

Barricades

If you received an even number of Action Points on your turn, you will be able to place one barricade on the map.

You may stack up to 3 barricades on one location. This does not use any Action Points.

Flag defenses

To make it more difficult for your opponent to capture your flag, you can place flag defenses up. Each flag defense requires 1 additional Action Point for the flag to be captured. Only 3 flag defences are allowed on a flag.

You can place 1 flag defence on your flag only when you receive 6 Action Points on your turn. This does not use any Action Points.
