Wing Warriors is a danmaku shooter for the Game Boy written in Z80 assembly.

The challenge of the 32-sprite limitation was significant for a game that aligns with the danmaku/bullet hell genre. Additionally, tile scroll movement limitations affected the desired smoothness of background motion. While methods to mitigate this were available, the decision was to maintain the current state.

Originally published for MSX in la MSXdev'15, the game was later adapted to the Master System and Game Gear due to architectural parallels with the MSX. Interestingly, Sega's 8-bit console drew heavy inspiration from the Japanese standard, even replicating substantial portions of its architecture. This enabled better graphics and minimized flickering through increased sprite display capacity.

The game was eventually ported to the Game Boy, given its shared screen resolution with the Game Gear.
